Happenings Downtown
I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thanks" to everyone that has commented in a flattering and positive way about the recent article in the Times News. There is a nice energy in the air right now in the downtown area. Everyone at Bella's House is excited about the additional business' that have joined us and we are very pleased to be working on our fifth year of business in the downtown area. Several of you were surprised at the recent article and how it didn't ackowledge our recent expansion or the successful business that several of us, Firefly, BJ's Gifts, and others have had for quite some time and how we have been loyal and dedicated to Downtown. Oh well, is all I have to say. The focus of the article was on NEW business. The rest of us will benefit very nicely from all the energy that the new business will bring and I am sooooooo excited about the future!!!!!

Thanks so much to all that contributed donations and time to the yard sale yesterday. We were able to raise $1000 to go directly to the Boys & Girls Club of Alamance County. It is exciting to see exactly where the money goes. One of the young men that have previously benefited from the program was there yesterday to assist. He is a fine young man and an outstanding example for others. Keep up the good work!

Along with great food by Marg of Sonny's Catering and wine from the Iron Gate Winery, we will have actors who are familiar with Shakespeare's "A Midsummer's Night Dream" call out the numbers during the "Bingo Sessions". A gift basket with wonderful items will be given out at the end of the evening to one lucky bingo winner.
Music will be performed by "Green Army Men" ( 80's - 90's college rock music) in the courtyard. A special guest, Lisa Kyle, will be playing acoustic guitar before the band goes on.
At the end of the evening, we will gather outside around a bonfire where actors will perform a portion of "A Midsummer's Night Dream". We will throw circulets of St. John's wort into the fire, which is used to ward off evil spirits on this magical night of the summer solstice.
Summer soltice traditions center on the life giving force of fire and light. Some countries light huge bonfires that glow into the night as a way to celebrate. Villagers gathered around the fires singing, dancing and chanting charms. As the fires burned through the night, people tended and watched over the leaping flames. Herbs and larkspur were tossed in the dying fires with the words, "May ill luck depart, burnt up in these." Evil spirits were said to lurk about on the magical night of the summer solstice. St. John's wort, an aromatic ancient herb, was used to fashion circlets and worn on the head to ward off these evil spirits. William Shakespeare penned a rollickin romantic play around the antics of humans and mystical creatures called, "A Midsummer's Night Dream".
This will be an evening you won't forget!

On Saturday, April 25th we will be holding a yard sale to benefit the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Alamance County. The items for sale will consist of the consigned items in the store that did not sell after six months on the showroom floor. Several of our consignors request that we donate the items to a good cause. If you have items that you would like to donate we will be graciously accepting items on Monday, April 20 and Thursday, April 23 from 4:00 - 6:00pm. Other times can be arranged and if pick up is needed for larger items the Salvation Army will be doing that on Friday, April 24 from 10:00 - 4:00. Please help us in assisting this very worthy cause!!!

Next.
Ok, got through the sidewalk sale...and it was great. We were able to clear out a lot of things that had been in the store for six months just by putting them all together and letting people know that those items were on the final markdown. We cleaned up yesterday and actually made a clearance corner in the back of the store near the check out counter. Now, I need to get ready for our next yard sale. The items that are being donated will be pulled together for a huge yard sale in the rear parking lot. We will hold this event on April 25th. This time the benefits will go directly to the Boys and Girls Club of Alamance County. I would like to ask you to consider spring cleaning and if you have items that you would like to donate to the yard sale please drop them off. We will glady get you a receipt for your donation!

MEDIA...
This time last year I was busy preparing for WGHP Fox 8 and the morning show to come to the store and feature our "Reuse, Restore, and Recycle" program. This year we are anxiously waiting the next edition of both Triad Living and the Alamance Magazine to see how we made out in their articles on Consignment Furniture. I have recently had interviews with both and hope to get some good publicity!!!

Mother In Law Project
Just imagine 20 years of wall to wall mauve carpet, waverly chinz pink and blue fabric on your sofa, chairs, and window...We call it a Bella's House Makeover...bought furniture at the store, recovered it, added a few accent pieces, lots of new wall decor and new window treatments(courtesy of Draperies Direct). The in-laws took off on a cruise for two weeks and I had a blast. Things came together very nicely even if I do say so myself. Can't put a rug down for a few weeks. But Nana looks her new room!!!

Patrick Henry
Ok, I have to admit this facebook thing can be pretty cool. I work really hard and don't get to catch up with friends very often. Certainly don't have anything exciting to put on my blog. But my special friend has a fabulous new website that I just felt like I must share...And I wouldn't have known about it without facebook. If an occasion requires a speaker or even speaking entertainment please check out his new web site at www.PatrickHenrySpeaker.com. You will be impressed !!!!

Decorating
Ok, yesterday was spent setting up facebook, adding friends, fans and it goes on and on and now they tell me about flair and pokes and stuff. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
But today, I spent the day earning the "daughter-in-law" of the year award. But with lots of advise from my sister-in-law. And son, he has helped too, a little!!! New floors, new furniture, and a whole makeover for the living room, dining room combo at the in-laws abode. They will be back tomorrow from a little winter trip and will be surprised by the makeover edition that Bella's House has pulled off. More details to come with photos and maybe even video - if I can get that savvy!!!

Ok, so I think I am technologically savvy with the website and this silly little blog but Stewart, my daughter, thought I should have a facebook like "Firefly on Spring Street". Their facebook is fun and informative. I don't know how to make mine look like that. I think it might require a little more knowledge than I currently have. So, if you are one of the people (very few) that have requested to "be my friend" I have not replied because I don't have it set up quite right just yet. But thanks for the gesture.

Working on Saturday
Wow! Saturdays can seem like two days rolled into one. There is the day before lunch and the day after lunch. I guess we all strive to get as much done on the weekends as possible. I know I do. Before I get to work I try to catch up around the house and do a few errands. But now, after work, I am ready to sit down. I sat at the computer to delete a few photos of the things we sold today. I didn't have a chance to take new photos of the items we received. There is always Monday!!!

House for Sale
When we moved into the house where we live now, three years ago, we rented the old house because we thought the real estate market couldn't get any worse. Well, I am obviously not a good judge of real estate. I can only hope that my consignment furniture sense of being is better.
Our tenant has moved on and we need to sell this house. Check it out and pass it along. The street address is 2319 Westover Terrace in Burlington, North Carolina. The square footage is approximately 2950 and has four bedrooms. We can show it anytime - call us at 336-524-9248.

Christmas Tree
I just sat down for a few minutes. Got the painters started at my mother-in-law's house. We are redecorating her living room and dining room while she is out of town. She decided to leave for two weeks so I saw it as the perfect opportunity to pick up the mauve wall to wall carpet and start all over. The hardwoods are being refinished next week and the furniture that I picked out at Bella's has already been recovered. I have a few lamps and additional accesories left to go. But because I have been so busy I just now took down my christmas decorations!!!
